If connected objects are talked about a lot, they are very little in the end to materialize and enter our house today. Among those who have managed to move from the realm of fantasy to reality, let us quote the Hue system from Philips: connected bulbs, directly controllable via one's smartphone or tablet. And if you think this is just for replacing your switch, read on. You may be surprised. Presented again to the general public during the Nuits Sonores in Lyon, the Philips Hue system is not a recent product since it has been available for sale since the start of 2013 but it is still little known to consumers who have difficulty visualizing all the possibilities of this connected lighting. Hue actually allows us to reconsider light and give it an important place in our way of life.

Light, a new player in the home

The first use, basic shall we say, is the remote control and programming of these lights. It is not only a question of avoiding getting up to light (even if it is obviously practical, it must be admitted), but of matching your lighting with your lifestyle. Take the example of the morning, the Hue system can be programmed so that a soft and progressive lighting comes to wake you up without stress. In the same way, you can determine a specific time for the lights to go out in your children's room. Finally, we will use the automatic programming of bulbs in case of prolonged absence to improve the security of your home and repel any thieves. Philips has highlighted (without pun intended) the importance of lighting on our state of mind. It has thus been shown that adjustments can influence concentration, relaxation or stimulation. Depending on our needs during the day, the Hue system adapts according to our desires to deliver the right atmosphere. It should be noted that these bulbs are capable of rendering up to 16 million colors, we are far from all white or all black.
Light can also be considered a hobby. Several applications have been developed so that one can play and have fun thanks to it. It is thus possible to connect your Ambilight television (a television which projects a halo of light) to the bridge and thus to multiply the visual interactions between the television and all the luminaires of the room. Immersion is then total. The same kind of interaction is possible with its speakers, the room then turns into a nightclub, the bulbs reacting to the melody and rhythm. On the leisure side, we can also talk about the restitution of the colors of an image. After having downloaded his images (for example that of his holidays in Greece), we select specific points which will be analyzed by Hue and whose exact color will be transmitted to your home.

No need to be an electrician to install Hue

For those who fear the complexity of electrical installations, the installation of Hue does not require any delicate operation. Just plug in its bulbs, a bridge provided with them takes care of ensuring communication between your smartphone or tablet and your light. Once everything is in place, just follow the instructions, very educational, of the application. The Hue system is still in its infancy and Philips is counting on its users to invent new ways to use this connected lighting. To convince them, the brand will be offering new products linked to the Hue system this fall, such as the Hue tap (a connected switch) and the Hue Lux (white bulbs). Finally, Philips also collaborated with designers to create luminaries similar to works of art and working with the Hue system.
