Do you have a renovation or layout project for your kitchen? If you want a modern decoration for this room in the house, choose a stainless steel worktop. Its brushed metal look has, like any coating, advantages and disadvantages, which it is good to know before going to the installation!

The stainless steel worktop allows impeccable cleanliness in the kitchen

Stainless steel has incredible antibacterial properties, ideal for a work plan. This is also why it is found in all professional kitchens. Provided it is properly cleaned!

To clean a stainless steel worktop, nothing's easier ! There are several effective tips, with natural products:

  • Clean the stainless steel with soapy water

Unbeatable for cleaning stains and dissolving grease, Marseille soap is one of your best allies for cleaning a stainless steel worktop and making it sparkling. Dilute a little soap in hot water and use a sponge or cloth to clean the surface. Then rinse with clear water and wipe with a soft cloth to leave no traces.

  • Clean the stainless steel with white vinegar

White vinegar easily removes stubborn traces as well as lime. Soak a soft cloth in white vinegar and water, rub and dry with a dry cloth.

  • Clean the stainless steel with baking soda

Use powdered baking soda. Dilute it in hot water and rub the stainless steel worktop with a soft cloth. Rinse with clear water and dry the surface with a microfiber cloth.

The stainless steel worktop gives the kitchen a modern look

The great advantage of this metal is its design, which goes well with any type of decoration and with all colors. Several kinds of stainless steel are available. Honeycomb, smooth, brushed or microstructure, you choose according to your tastes!

stainless steel also goes very well with bright colors like yellow, blue, pink or even green, very trendy in current kitchens. It also goes perfectly with all types of materials that can be found in a kitchen: black or dark brown wooden furniture for an industrial style, white furniture for a bright kitchen or even total stainless steel look for futuristic cuisine!

Note that outdoors, a stainless steel plate can be installed next to a barbecue, to prepare the meat without risking damaging the surface. It will not rust and will not fear humidity or bad weather.

The stainless steel worktop is heat resistant

Stainless steel has a very practical advantage for a kitchen: it resists heat. You can therefore safely put pots and other hot pans on your stainless steel worktop, without using a trivet.

The area under the pan then becomes a little hot, but the heat does not spread over the rest of the worktop. As a bonus, the heat leaves no trace on the surface, provided you don't leave your pan or saucepan for too long!

The stainless steel worktop can be easily scratched

The main disadvantage of stainless steel is that it can scratch very easily or leave visible fingerprints. Indeed, it has a less fine patina than that present on zinc.

Avoid cutting your food directly on your stainless steel worktop. The traces of the knife blade could scratch the surface. Over time, some scratches will be visible, even taking care of your work plan.

A grandmother's tip to remove shallow scratches on stainless steel: use toothpaste! It is a slightly abrasive product which can reduce scratches. To do this, apply a thin layer of toothpaste in the direction of brushing on the stainless steel with a soft cloth. Leave to dry and rinse with soapy water.
